You can easily add your email account to any email program, e.g., Outlook and Thunderbird. All email programs have different ways to install the email account, but in general you can choose to opt for a “simple installation” rather than an advanced, and most settings will be automatically set.
We recommend installing your gmail.co.za account as an IMAP service with TLS encryption.
Recommended settings
- Your username is your full gmail.co.za email address
- Login / authentication is required for both incoming and outgoing mail servers
- Incoming mail server (IMAP): Server name mail.gmail.co.za, encryption type None, server port 143
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP): Server name mail.gmail.co.za, encryption type None, server port 587
Alternative settings for incoming mail server
If the settings above do not comply with your email program, or if you have special requirements, you may want to use SSL encryption for the incoming mail server:
- Alternative IMAP service (incoming email server): Server name mail.gmail.co.za, encryption type SSL, server port 993
